For children, ages 6-11

Although kids are very media-savvy these days, Mixed Media Image Making For Kids  begins with a step-by-step program where kids start with drawing basic concepts first. Then they move on to digital media. Children will learn to make a simple line drawings after classic illustrations. Next, they will color them with watercolor,  learning how to mix color and make a color wheel.

After the basics, children will then move onto still-life painting and master-copy using classical methods of drawing and painting. Learning how to assemble their own set up, determine the composition, and look at what other artists in history have done to problem solve in their own work.

As students advance in their grasp of image making, we will discuss the great variety of ways to make images, taking advantage of the digital format of the class to also study how to incorporate digital manipulation into their tool set as they strive to ultimately realize the images they envision.

Each lesson is tailored for individual student needs. They  will also be exposed to and encouraged to learn from work of great  artists from the past in a range of mediums and covering many themes. We let children be children, but still teach them good technique and foster a desire to explore without fear. This is  an excellent foundation that prepares young artists for AP Portfolio classes in high school and our own portfolio prep program here at  Teaching Studios of Art.
