Foundations of Academic Drawing and Painting

Day : Tuesday

Time : 6:30-9:30pm

Instructor : Rob Zeller

Class Starts : September 11

Foundations of Academic Drawing and Painting offers a step-by-step approach to the fundamentals of drawing and painting in the classical tradition. A very informative and comprehensive class, students will learn a working method that will span the genres of Still Life, Landscape,as well as copying Old Master drawings and paintings, to gain an understanding of the basics of drawing and painting itself.

Similar to Foundations of Classical Drawing and Painting, students will work on individual projects initially. First, they will block-in a Still Life in pencil, then transfer the drawing to a canvas. They will execute both a value and color study, then proceed to make a finished painting. Students will then repeat this process for a copy of an Old Master Landscape, Figure or Portrait, following the exact same steps. Finally, students will have the option to work from the live model for a portrait and/or figure for 5 weeks.

I can’t thank you enough for offering this very educational and rewarding class! I have always dabbled in all kinds of media, but never really had any basic training in drawing. This class would be valuable no matter what level you are at. Rob Zeller is an excellent teacher and his studio is filled with warm, friendly, competent students and faculty.

No matter how many years you have been drawing, you may find, as I did, that you haven’t honed your skills to the level you would like to attain. Rob Zeller’s excellent at analyzing strengths and weaknesses with the goal of improvement. I highly recommend this class in this wonderful academy.

I cannot believe it took me so long to leave a review – I normally just jump onto the site to sign up again and again!
This is an excellent class for all levels – Rob Zeller focuses on each student’s capabilities and helps each extend their skills based on their own level. The school is full of great students and teachers alike – give it a try! The workshops, talks and open figure drawing sessions are a great addition as well
