Foundations of Portrait, Still Life, Old Master Copy offers a step-by-step approach to the fundamentals of drawing and painting in the classical tradition, and represents the very core concepts of what we do best at the Teaching Studios of Art. A very informative and comprehensive class, students will learn a working method that will span the genres of Still Life, Landscape, Old Master Copy and working from the live model for Portrait and Figure.
Students will work on individual projects initially. First, they will block-in a Still Life in pencil on paper, then (if oil or acrylic painting) they will transfer the drawing to a canvas. Students will then execute both a value and color study, and proceed to make a finished painting. Students will then repeat this process for a copy of an Old Master Landscape, Figure or Portrait, following the exact same steps. Finally, students will have the option to work from the live model for a portrait and/or figure for 5 of the 8 weeks.
