Figure and Portrait Atelier • Drawing and Painting is the full day option to study from the live model for 6 hours weekly with Teaching Studios Director and Founder Rob Zeller. This will allow for a greater understanding of Zeller’s concepts and the development of finished figure drawing and paintings. Students in this program can choose two of the three available time slots.
If you have wanted to learn more about the figure, but find it overwhelming in its complexity, this is the class for you. Instructor Rob Zeller teaches a system of figure drawing and painting that emphasizes form, structure and anatomy.
The textbook for this class will be The Figurative Artist’s Handbook by the instructor, Rob Zeller, put out by The Monicelli Press. All of the concepts taught in this class are also in the book, and Zeller teaches a concepts from it weekly. The book can be purchased from Amazon by clicking here.
5 essential concepts will be taught:
1. Gesture and rhythm of the pose
2. Basic proportions and geometry of the figure
3. Blocking-in using anatomy and a specific understanding of light and shadow
4. Modeling form
5. Finishing and refining touches
Artist will draw, then paint monochromatically, then paint in full color.
Working from photographs is not allowed in this class.
Important- Prerequisite Class required:
Foundations of Classical Drawing and Painting– at least one session taken at the Teaching Studios of Art or the equivalent class at another school. If the latter option, proof will be determined by portfolio review of images by the instructor. Please contact us if you have any questions, prior to registering. Students who register without proof of Foundations will not be considered enrolled in the class.
