Aerin McGrath graduated from Connecticut College in 2005, where she studied figure painting and design with Barkley L. Hendricks, while simultanelously earning a teaching degree. McGrath spent her junior year in Rome, Italy pursuing her studies in painting, drawing and sculpture at the Rome University of Fine Arts.
After college, McGrath spent four years at Studio Incamminati in Philadelphia, where she was drawn to Shanks’ bold use of color and instinctive, emotional approach to painting and drawing. At Incamminati, she studied with Dan Thompson, Michael Grimaldi, Jon de Martin and Stuart Feldman. McGrath left Philadelphia in 2009 to come to New York to take classes at the Art Students League with Michael Grimaldi.
McGrath has taught at Studio Incamminati and The Benjamin Rush School of Art, both in Philadelphia. In NYC, she has taught at the Katonah Center for the Arts and Educational Alliance Art School. She is a working artist and teacher at the The Coal Shop: The Brooklyn Workshop & Gallery, and recently had her first solo show there, “An Invitation to Draw”. McGrath works out of her studio in Bushwick, Brooklyn, and is the founder and organizer of Bushwick Figure Drawing.
