Kathy Burns

Kathy Burns began painting in 1972 and has continued her studies under the tutelage of Judie Almer, Attila Hejja, Dan Slapo, and many of the teachers at the Teaching Studios of Art.  She has her Bachelor’s Degree in Fine Arts and will be graduating June 2013 from the Academy of Art University in San Francisco with her Master’s in Fine Arts.

Kathy’s paintings have been exhibited all over the country, including California, Colorado, Illinois, New Hampshire, Pennsylvania and Texas.  She has recently won awards for her work at numerous shows and competitions, including the Award of Excellence from the Town of Oyster Bay, numerous awards from the Art League of Nassau County and has had the honor of exhibiting her work in the prestigious Catharine Lorillard Art Show at the National Arts Club In Manhattan.

Kathy’s work can currently be seen in the 8th Annual Northeast National Pastel Exhibition in Old Forge, NY and in “Viewpoints: Art of the Portrait” at the Shelter Rock Library in Albertson, NY.  

Previously, Kathy worked as an art therapist for children at numerous hospitals, schools, and mental institutions. Kathy has also taught art classes from her home for 25 years with children ages 5-18. A proud mother of five, Kathy is thrilled that three of her children have continued their art studies at a college level, pursuing Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees in Fine Art and a Bachelor’s degree in Art Therapy.
